  1. Turn on Optimize iPhone Storage. With iCloud Photos, Settings › Apps › Photos › Optimize iPhone Storage keeps originals in iCloud and lighter copies on your phone. You need enough iCloud space.
  2. Compress your videos. Videos are usually the biggest files in your library. Compressing a long video keeps it watchable and frees most of its space.
  3. Turn Live Photos into still photos. Every Live Photo stores a short video too. Keeping just the still image saves space for the shots where the motion does not matter.
  4. Delete only true duplicates. Exact copies (saved twice, sent back to you in chats) are not memories. In Photos, the Duplicates album under Utilities lists them so you can merge them.
  5. Clear screenshots you no longer need. Old screenshots of codes, chats and receipts pile up into thousands of files.
  6. Move photos off your phone. Copy your library to a computer or an external drive, or back it up to another cloud service, before removing old albums from your iPhone.
  7. Free space elsewhere first. Offload unused apps (Settings › Apps › App Store › Offload Unused Apps), clear Safari and app caches, and review large Messages attachments.
